looks like we have a new member who just joined by the name of @SCalaska don't think i recognize the name from the other place which has me wondering if he found us from a search? that would be pretty significant if so ... hmm
weird i could swear i saw the site listed under the key phrase stock market forums (with spaces) on google earlier today ... was about to take a screen capture and post it here to prove it but checking again now i don't see it ... it could have been stockmarketforums (without spaces) but can't remember ... dang it lol
OK I tried, seemed like it appeared on the first page when I typed stockmarketforums (without spaces)
hmm ... i think i might have made a slight error when picking out the domain name for this site so i really wanted a ".com" name, but unfortunately stockmarketforums.com was taken however, i was just looking again and i see i could have just settled on a ".net" name instead since stockmarketforums.net was available not sure if the added word "the" in our current domain name really makes that much of a difference for people searching for this site, but maybe just a little? since i really wanted the ".com" name though i could have actually also just gone with stockmarketboards.com which was also available as well ... hmm decisions decisions perhaps what i could do is purchase one or both of those two domain names that i mentioned above and just setup a simple "redirect" into our current board url here so we don't have to end up changing things around ... that is also another option what do you guys think?
alright so i just went ahead and purchased those 2 domain names tonight ... let me know if these 2 work for you guys! http://www.stockmarketforums.net/ http://www.stockmarketboards.com/ those 2 should simply redirect right into this site not sure if this will make much of any difference for people looking for us but i thought it was worth a try anyway!
nope i didn't have to purchase them both but i did anyway now you guys can reach this site from either of these 3 domain names: www.thestockmarketforums.com www.stockmarketforums.net www.stockmarketboards.com i'm not sure which one is easiest to remember ... but i figured the one that i had originally went with thestockmarketforums.com might have been a little harder for people to remember because of the word "the" in the name. now a simple stockmarketforums.net or stockmarketboards.com will also bring you here
ok i think i've finally figured out the configuration for the e-mail server so now you guys should be getting e-mail notifications sent to your e-mail inbox from this site ... for example when you are following a thread and want to have e-mails sent to your inbox whenever there is a new post ... if someone could kindly confirm that this is indeed working for them i'd greatly appreciate it! i think it will be important to have this functioning so people are aware that there is a new post in a thread that they are following, etc...
@tbw875 any luck getting on at work yet? i did notice you were on at around 1pm (10am your time?) earlier and was hoping that was from your work this time but not sure ... did those 2 new domain names help at all by any chance? i'm thinking probably not since they're just forwarding to the current url
just wanting to make sure this is in fact working for all of you guys on here ... if someone could just quickly confirm it for me that be great! resolving this was actually my #1 priority with this site right now ... getting e-mail notifications from the forums is very important in that it helps give people a heads up whenever there are new posts also just wondering but did either of these 2 domain names help at all for anyone when reaching this site? or are you guys still using www.thestockmarketforums.com to get here?
Cy, just wanna let you know that the site was down when I tried to log in at around 4 am Eastern Time. Not sure if it was just me though or for everyone Anyway, no issue except for the late night outage
hmm site still going down during the late night hours huh? this morning's outage was mostly related to the e-mail server as i was working on that to get it all configured but the late night stuff is a bit of a mystery, but i might know what is causing it so you guys might be surprised to know that i am actually hosting this site myself right off of my google fiber connection ... the nice thing about having google fiber for an isp is that i can practically run whatever i please (like servers and the like) and since i have experience with running web servers from the past i thought i would just host this site myself (at least initially ). it's not that i can't afford a web hosting solution ... it just that i was never very fond of the idea of running my site off a paid host as technical support was always an issue for me in past experiences ... here i am my own technical support which is pretty nice ... and i can simply dedicate all of my bandwidth for this site ... it's basically unlimited bandwidth and web space if you will so, if there are issues such as site outages and the like i can quickly troubleshoot them as i have the server running locally here in my home which is super nice i'll look into the late night outage issues this week, but at first glance it appears this is may be a result of my backup script that i have running on my server which is scheduled nightly from 3-5am eastern which i suppose is right about the time that you guys are experiencing the site going offline? i may have to just disable that ... hmm anyway thx again for bringing this to my attention @stock1234
@bigbear0083 No luck. It always shows an issue with the myvnc part. No worries, my phone does it just fine (which is what you probably saw)
hmm i'll try temporarily disabling my backup server script tonight and see if that does anything ... it's a good thing these are happening during late night hours when not many are on the site as for the new domain names they already active try www.StockMarketForums.net and www.StockMarketBoards.com if you put that into your web browser it should bring you to this site?
Cy, looks like Sophos doesn't like it since it's hosted on your own IP. again, no biggie. I shouldn't be looking at work anyways
